A Night Away From Baby

This was two weekends ago when we got some time away from Emmy. Doesn’t happen very often so we tried to enjoy it while we could :]

Hope you watch and enjoy!

Inner Artist

Living in Vegas, it can be difficult to get outside in the blazing sun. Especially when your kids’ skin is as pale as the background on this webpage. I slather her in sunscreen before every outdoor activity – which is a 20-minute ordeal, of course, but it never seems to be enough. There is zero shade here, and basically zero grass… Oh yeah, and her attention span is still all of about 30 seconds.

SO I created a space for her to create in the garage. It isn’t much, and mostly just consisted of moving all our things out of the way, and it still gets too hot in there some days. But it’s better than nothing. We get natural light in from the side door and a nice breeze when we bring the fan. We used the new space for Emerson’s latest painting this past week! She had a blast and mostly painted her/myself, of course. Everything she creates is so beautiful and pure because she has no intention and has no care of the end result. That is a true beauty that us adults will never know.

I’m constantly getting caught up in my own head when I’m creating. It’s a constant battle of not feeling good enough or worthy. Nothing turning out right or perfect. Letting go of the idea of perfect is even harder, especially if you are a Virgo (those damn stars).

Emerson doesn’t mind though. It doesn’t even cross her mind. So she creates.

Soon we will be posting her originals up for auction, to go toward her college account. We’ve started her an Instagram where we will be posting all her new art. Feel free to follow her account, @EmersonCreates, to keep up with all of her latest paintings and see how she evolves over the years. We are so excited for her to start this new project and to be able to contribute to her future.

Visitors, man.

Eyyyyy, so visiting season is starting back up! We just had some visitors—some visitors that I feel weird calling visitors because they’re my family and they shouldn’t have to be considered something that seems to imply outsiders… I just want them to be, like, normies… I guess.

So let’s begin…

My mother and brother came out this past weekend and it was all kinds of nice; just being able to see them after spending months apart again was great. It’s especially important to keep trying to get together now that Emmy is growing up and changing so fast, so we’re trying to stay on top of things and we’re doing our best to give everybody their time with her while she’s still a tiny.

Anyways, they came and we had fun. They first got here on Friday and they came and stopped by our place when they got into town—after they dropped off their bags and post-Emmy’s nap, of course. I worked in the morning and then got to be home to greet them in the afternoon and that was great.

We spent a nice weekend having little adventures, like going to the Shark Reef at the Mandalay Bay and venturing out for food every two seconds—but hey, c’est la vie, no? It was extremely nice to have them here and I miss both of them like crazy already. I’m just glad that they got any time to come out and see little Ms. Emmy, who is growing each and every day.

We’ve got visitors, visitors, and visitings? all summer long it seems, and we’re not complaining. We spent two lonely years in the PNW with hardly any visitors, so it’s kind of nice to have people around, especially for Emmy’s—and every person who doesn’t get to be around my awesome baby every day’s—sake.

I’m just sayin’… summer’s coming, everyone! I’m afraid of the devilish temperatures that are about to be upon us here in Vegas, but I feel as though we’re right where we need to be.

Happy Hump Day.

Rain, Rain, Go Away.

Alrighty then—now that we established what happened with the whole birth part of the story and I’ve talked about some more recent stuff… we can move forward, or onward you might say, in the past, but still onward… in the story, and can now discuss our Portland/Vancouver life a little bit.

I think I mentioned earlier that we were living in a small city called Vancouver, Washington at the time of Emmy’s birth; she was born in Portland, though, and thank the Lord for that. Not that Vancouver is a bad place or anything, but there are definitely some crazies up there and who even knows that there’s a Vancouver in Washington. Anyways, Emmy is Portland-born and she lived there (or near) for the first eight-or-so months of her life.

Now, I’m just going to give you the first 3/4 year of her life in a short, small, little nutshell. When our tubular little tyke was born, it was right in the heart of the rainy season, which worked for the FIRST few months of her life because she was fairly immobile and we weren’t really supposed to take her outside anyway. The more time moved forward and the bigger she grew though, the more we longed to get away from our dreary little apartment on the bottom floor in the small, hardly-known town that is America’s Vancouver.

Date Night

I know that many of you aren’t going to care much about this, but not too long ago my twenty-seventh birthday came rolling by, and guess what? Well, it was the first time that we (Kayleigh and I) got to spend any time without Emmy in months! Well, I guess I get to go to work and school, but it’s the first time she’s really been without either of us for more than, like, an hour in the recent past. Not that I have anything against spending time with her or anything.

Any of you who are parents will understand how big a deal it is to get a night away from your children, and I gotta tell you, we enjoyed it.

The last time we got a night together, just us, was in September. We had just moved to Vegas and had gone down to Arizona to see my mom, and while we were there we went out to see IT. That was like four-and-a-half or five months ago! So it was time, well-deserved even, and we took advantage of the one chance we had to spend some real, quality time together.

Boyfriend Girlfriend

After I got home from work, we all hung out and spent a while playing as a family, and tried to cram in all the time we could get together before we had to leave our little girl behind. When you never spend really any amount of time away from your kids, it can be hard to do so, even when it’s for less than a handful of hours! Such is the case for Kayleigh at least! She has the hardest time leaving Emmy anywhere, with anyone; it’s kinda cute. Anyways, we played and played with Emmy, gave her snacks, and basically just made sure she wasn’t going to think that we had abandoned her, or didn’t love her anymore, or something. Kids are weird, and think all kinds of weird things for all kinds of reasons, okay?

Tom Brady and a Baby

It sure is a beautiful day to watch a bunch of dudes wearing tights try to wrastle each other to the ground, ain’t it?

Well, Emmy was up early today, like 6 am-ish and now here we are. Typically she sleeps until at least 6:30, and this lack of the extra half hour is definitely felt anddd probably contributes to why I feel the urge to post this unnecessary little blog post. I awoke to Kayleigh and the amazing little lady lying next to me, Kayleigh half-asleep, Emmy with diaper leaking… all over her mama. So, Kayleigh got up and grabbed a diaper, I stayed in the bed with Emmy, and she, herself just stared at me trying to figure out what in the hell we were up to. The diaper was switched out and the attempt at cuddling went on. It didn’t really last, though.
