A Night Away From Baby

This was two weekends ago when we got some time away from Emmy. Doesn’t happen very often so we tried to enjoy it while we could :]

Hope you watch and enjoy!

Trying Something a Little Different…

Hey there! If any of you are still here… we know that you haven’t heard from us in a little while, but life is hard and blogging every week is tough… but we’re doing something just a little different at the moment and would love if you checked it out.

This here is a link to a video shot two weeks ago at an awesome ghost town in Nevada called Nelson. There are a couple more videos up on the channel and we hope that you watch and enjoy them.

We know it’s not blogging, and, at the moment, it’s not vlogging, but that may happen sometime soon, so keep up! It’s just a new medium to tell our stories and it’d be great to see you all over on the channel! Like and subscribe so you don’t miss out!

Whatcha Doin’ in My Waters?

Here I am, breaking the silence after quite some time now. Man, has life been busy.

So, we never meant to stop posting on here, but as things have it, life got a little bit crazy for a while there and this blog had to get pushed way back on the priority list. It feels like things have been go, go, go for so long and I’m happy to say that it’s hopefully going to slow down for a second here soon.

What have we been busy with, you may ask? Well, for starters, I was doing summer classes and working, and Kayleigh was, well, being the rockstar that she is. She was taking care of Emmy, all day, every day for the most part, for the month and a half-ish that I was busy away from the house. She was also doing all the shopping and most of the cleaning and basically everything else that needed done. It’s safe to say that neither of us had much time on our hands at the end of the day to sit down and blog.

My hope is that we can get back to posting and giving you a glimpse into the things we’re up to in the coming week or two. I can’t promise that we’ll be posting as much (even three days a week gets rough when you’re a parent), but we will do what we can to keep writing and talking to you guys. Writing is important to me and Kayleigh really seemed to be getting into Mama Monday, so we’ll be around.

Keep up with us—we’re not half bad.

We love you long time.

It’s Not Over, There’s Just a Slight Pause.

I’m sure that those of you that read our little blog have noticed that we’ve been away for just a little bit now, but the thing is, it’s not over.

Kayleigh and I aren’t done writing on the blog after the fifty posts that we’ve written (yes, this is post number fifty!), things have just gotten even busier lately. I know, I know, we said that things were going to get better with posting and not worse, but stuff keeps popping up (that we knew about) that aren’t allowing as much time as we had hoped for, at least for the time-being.

We were gone for like, five days in Arizona visiting my family and that took up some of our time, and sad to say, we weren’t able to keep up while we were gone because we just needed to try and enjoy our time there rather than stress. When you’re with family, you want to spend your time with that family, rather than on the computer, so I figured it was okay to skip this while we were there.

Then, I started school again and found out that this semester is going to be a little more intense than I’d even realized. I enrolled in summer classes to get in-state tuition and to try to knock some credits out quickly, and that’s really what all of this is: quick. I’ve got a total of sixteen days in class to complete Psychology, so there’s a lot of reading and cramming going on and it’s taking up a bunch of time. I’m also doing a full English class in six weeks, so bear with me. Those of you who have taken summer college classes can understand how little time I have, especially with working and spending time with the family as well.

Now, with me being gone so much more—like from 8-ish AM to 7:30, and then having homework to do once I get home, and an Emmy to help get down—Kayleigh has more on her plate with Emerson as well. She now has to basically be Emmy’s soul caretaker and she doesn’t get a break. At all. Ever. She’s doing fantastic though and is rocking it as a mama, and I’m so proud of her for doing what she’s doing. She’s, as I’ve said before, a total rockstar and is holding down the fort while I’m off trying to fit a million things into my brain every day.

This is parenting. This is the real shit. Life is a struggle. We carry on.

Talk to you soon.

Baby Sicknesses

With babies, not all is peachy one-hundred percent of the time.

This may seem obvious but I think that even us parents forget it sometimes. You may go hours, days, or even weeks without your little one having any problems, but then that one extra hard day or that super rough night hits and you remember really quickly.

Emmy is suddenly sick. It’s not life-threatening or anything, but I guess we don’t really know what it is as the doctor that Kayleigh took her to yesterday didn’t test her for anything or give her anything to help her get better. I guess it’s better than them just writing her a prescription after barely looking at her, but they could have at least tested her for the flu or something, right?

You see, two nights ago, not long after we put Emerson down, Kayleigh and I were passing Emmy’s bedroom door when we began to hear strange noises… it almost sounded like… vomiting. I’ll bet that you’re clever enough to figure out what was going on. We rushed into the room and found our tiny baby holding herself up with her tiny arms over a puddle of puke and attempting to catch her breath.

Time Needs to Slow

Everybody, guess what? On the 16th, Emmy turned one-and-a-half, and you know what? I didn’t even manage a post to commemorate it! This past week has been fairly busy and hectic although not much new has happened besides Emmy’s Meme and Papa Steve going out of town for a few days.

This past weekend, Colleen and Steve had Kayleigh’s cousin, Tiff’s, wedding reception back in good old Portland. Yes, Portland. So we were there for roughly two years and we barely had visitors, but now that we’re gone, people can finally make it out to the PNW for a visit ._.

Anyways, about last Wednesday… considering I can’t really remember anything too big going on means it must not have been too significant. I do remember telling Emmy that she was old and that she needed to slow down, though, so there must have been something going on that day. Oh well.

I just wanted to let you all know about how fast this little girl is growing up because a lot of you have been following her little journey for a few months now on the blog and it’s all just going so fast. When I began this blog in January, the little girl was only 1 year, 1.5-months-old. Crazy isn’t it? She’s literally changing from a baby to a little girl right before my very eyes and I’m about ready to beg whatever Gods that I need to to get her to slow down a bit!

She’s going to be two before we know it and time is just going to continue to move, continue to fly by and just as we watched our tiny baby turn into a little girl, before we know it our little girl is going to be a real-life child and then a bigger child, teenager, then adult, and then… I’m getting way ahead of myself.

She’s growing too fast is all I really wanted to say. I also wanted to say thank you to everyone who continues to look at and read the blog; you are all very appreciated, I promise.

Happy belated half-birthday, Emmy. I love you so much!

Inner Artist

Living in Vegas, it can be difficult to get outside in the blazing sun. Especially when your kids’ skin is as pale as the background on this webpage. I slather her in sunscreen before every outdoor activity – which is a 20-minute ordeal, of course, but it never seems to be enough. There is zero shade here, and basically zero grass… Oh yeah, and her attention span is still all of about 30 seconds.

SO I created a space for her to create in the garage. It isn’t much, and mostly just consisted of moving all our things out of the way, and it still gets too hot in there some days. But it’s better than nothing. We get natural light in from the side door and a nice breeze when we bring the fan. We used the new space for Emerson’s latest painting this past week! She had a blast and mostly painted her/myself, of course. Everything she creates is so beautiful and pure because she has no intention and has no care of the end result. That is a true beauty that us adults will never know.

I’m constantly getting caught up in my own head when I’m creating. It’s a constant battle of not feeling good enough or worthy. Nothing turning out right or perfect. Letting go of the idea of perfect is even harder, especially if you are a Virgo (those damn stars).

Emerson doesn’t mind though. It doesn’t even cross her mind. So she creates.

Soon we will be posting her originals up for auction, to go toward her college account. We’ve started her an Instagram where we will be posting all her new art. Feel free to follow her account, @EmersonCreates, to keep up with all of her latest paintings and see how she evolves over the years. We are so excited for her to start this new project and to be able to contribute to her future.
